I figured that as I've finished the ISE III, I can focus on catching up on some new projects and some UFO's. To start with, here's a little lacy number I'm working on. I started it this morning and I've got a couple of weeks or so to get it done. I'm using the Debbie Bliss Cathay Silk that I purchased from Janette's Rare Yarns on Ebay and it's a dream to work with.
The lace pattern is one I found in an old McCall's craft mag from 1988 and I'm planning on knitting it up into a 10" x 60" rectangular wrap, give or take a few inches either way. Now, if you had asked me 6 months ago if I would ever be knitting a 'lacy' project (granted this is just an 8 row repeat) I would have scoffed at the notion. Yet here I am!
I spent the best part of last night going through my knitting pattern booklets and mags looking for a nice pattern to compliment the beautiful yarn. I'm still trying to get to grips with the whole pattern repeat thing but I think I've nailed it. Next time I try this I would like to include some beads.
I have the ISE III to thank for my new found love of lacy patterns. I was really inspired by all the wonderful scarves/shawls/wraps that participants made. There was one real beauty - Evelyn Clark's Estonian Garden Wrap that caught my attention. I'm still not sure about shawls such as the Swallow Tail Shawl. Maybe it's because it reminds me of something my Italian grandmother would have worn - but I wouldn't dream of underestimating the skills and patience involved in making something so intricate. It's just not for me.
So I think we can say that I like lace patterns that are fairly 'chunky', not too whispy and rectangular in shape. But come Spring, I'll probably be revisiting this... Sorry for the poor photo quality today. I can't find the batteries for my camera and the web cam is less than great!
