I really want to progress from spinning plain old merino and introducing other fibers and textures into my spinning. I do love you merino but where to start? Perhaps an inspirational bag of fibers and threads (which ones)? Or maybe even a spinner's swap? But how do you swap with somebody when all you have is plain old merino? Any ideas, anybody?
In search of inspiration, I started bloghopping through the Fiber Artists Bloggers ring which lead me to the Totally Tubular spinning kit. Now this is what I'm talking about. A medley of colours and textures, a veritable banquet of colourful fibery goodness to tickle your senses. Perfect!
I love the presentation of this kit and while it really isn't for me as I don't need another spindle right now, it sure is pretty to look at. The contents are close to what I'm looking for.
Do feel free to drop by with any comments and recommendations for this spinning noob. Maybe you could point me in the direction of a spinning swap due to take place, maybe??

How trendy am I! Check out the Bellwether's blog and their link to the Totally Tubular spinning kits in their shop. I am so 'a la mode' I'll allow myself just a second to gloat... there, all better.

I was just looking at that spin kit yesterday. Need a spindle? Everyone needs another spindle. hehe just kidding.
I recommend wool-silk blends as a next step. Maybe alpaca. Etsy has a number of people who sell roving and Crown Mountain Farms and Paradise Fibers sell a variety of spinning fibers. They are US based and I think they ship internationally.
Are you on Ravelry? I've seen fiber swaps there, though none recently.
Thanks for the nice comments on the kits! They are fun to spin, with lots of nobbly texture from the silk noil in the Tubular kits. There are photos of finished kits on flickr too, search for Totally Tubular handspun
